THE
DETAILS:
What is a cover shot contest?? This is a unique
concept to STS and we're excited to see it
get underway. This idea stems from the fact
that maybe not everyone is skilled with Photoshop,
but wants a chance to win some kickass prizes...
well this contest only requires a couple of
things... a camera, a subject, and an artistic
eye.
This is not going to be entirely about the
truck you shoot. A poor quality picture of
a sick show truck is not going to win, but
on the same token bone stock rides w/ excellent
photography won't either. We're looking for
a combination of quality and content.
Your goal will be to shoot a "COVER SHOT"
or in other words a really cool picture of
a truck or SUV (sorry guys, no cars) You can
use your own ride, a friends, or anyone else
willing to let you take pictures of their
ride. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT. Whats the catch??
(read the rules for specifics) There will
be no touch-up, air brushing, or excessive
chopping allowed. We want these shots RAW...
so its up to you to find a great spot, a great
subject, get your lighting right, and snap
"The Cover Shot"
THE
RULES: Photography only. Open to point and
shoot, digital SLR, regular cameras as well
(you will have to scan in the pic) No electronically
generated images or photoshops. This is open
to anyone with an SLR or point and shoot camera.
You don't need to have a $1000 camera to enter.
Its going to be just as much about the angle,
light, location, etc. as it is about the quality
of the shot.
No computer generated logos, effects, filters,
or specialty lenses may be used. Limited adjustment
of the pics contrast, exposure, and basic
settings are acceptable. Excessive alterations
will result in a DQ.
Entries can be of ANY truck or SUV not just
the photographers. Single vehicles or groups
of vehicles can be used, but this can help
or hurt an entry depending on how its executed.
Props?
Yes... you can have props, models, etc. but
let me make one thing clear... no nudity if
you are going to use a model. If you want
to take pics like that save them and post
in WW section DO NOT use them to enter the
contest.
Having a model
will not ensure a win... it may help or
hurt your chances depending on the quality
of the entry. STS.com staff reserves the
right to DQ any entry we deem "too
hot" for the contest. Please feel free
to contact myself or SickBoy if you need
clarification.
The photo must be taken by the entrant.
In order to ensure we don't have someone
plagerizing from anywhere else PROOF must
be provided with each entry... a shot of
the person entering the contest in front
of their subject or standing in the location
where the entry was shot. Plagerized images
will result in a DQ and that member being
banned from any future contests on STS.
1 entry per person. We want your best shot...
not the entire spread. Again this is the
cover shot contest... not the photoshoot
spread contest. Pick your best image to
submit.
All images must be submitted at 1280x1024,
larger or smaller files will DQ'd and sent
back to the contestant for resubmission
w/ the proper dimensions. If you are having
issues with sizing contact myself or SickBoy
for assistance. Please submit your proof
picture at no more than 500pixels wide.
NO POSTING UP YOUR ENTRY. Just as in the
photoshop contests do not share your entry
before we do... this is for your own good.
If you have a great shot you don't want
someone else copying it and stealing your
chance at prizes... keep em private... we
will post them for you when the contest
closes.
All entries must be submitted by 5:00pm
PST on July 30th. E-mail your entries to
dylan@showtruckscene.com and remember to
include your "PROOF" picture at
no more than 500 pixels wide. Please include
your screen name in the e-mail.
No resubmits will be allowed. Once the judges
have accepted your entry you will not be
able to substitute a different picture or
change it.
Entries become the property of Showtruckscene.com
FINALLY... and very importantly... THIS
CONTEST IS OPEN TO DONATING MEMBERS ONLY!!

great members we want to make sure these
prizes go to people interested in contributing
to our community. If you are not a donating
member yet you have to upgrade prior to
submitting an entry. Contact SickBoy or

THE
DECISION: This contest will be decided by
a panel of judges including the STS staff
and sponsors donating to the prizes. We
will be posting the entries for everyone
to discuss, point out high and low points,
and plead their case to the judges. The
judges will evaluate the entries take all
the suggestions, observations, and comments
from the thread into consideration and make
a decision.
There will be no peoples choice poll this
time around.
The entries will be posted for everyone
to see on July 31st... winners will be announced
as soon as the judges come to a decision.
There is not a predetermined timeline for
choosing the winners, but it shouldn't take
more than a week to fully discuss and evaluate
all the entries.
KEY THINGS TO CONSIDER -
Location, Location, Location!! Where your
shot is taken is just as important as what
the shot is of. Lighting... avoid excessive
glare from too much sunlight, but also watch
out for pics that are too dark... not many
cover shots are taken at night
Subject... doesn't have to be a show stopper,
but it would take an amazing picture to
win this contest with a stock ride.
Angle... its suggested you shoot A LOT of
shots and choose your best... get creative...
hang from a tree if you have to... this
is all about the art.
Position... some positions for vehicles
will look better than others... take careful
time to plan the layout.
Originality is important. Don't get boring
on us... experiment with new ideas... it
may pay off.
OOPS!! "forgot there was a port-a-potty
in the background" don't forget to
make sure ugly distractions are not visible
in your entry.
Still shot or action?? A shot of sparks
flying may be good... but can you capture
it better than a high quality still shot?
CLEAN IT!! Don't shoot a dirty ride... no
one would use a dirty truck for the cover
of a mag... and the same goes here.
Influence & Inspiration. Pick up your
favorite truck mag and look at what the
cover looks like... should get you inspired.
THE
